A Note from CEO Robert Becht (July 2023)

We recently had a very sad day at Menorah and for me personally.

One of our beloved staff members, Amelia Selman, unexpectedly passed away.  Amelia went back to her hometown in Panama to take care of her sick mother.  While there, she fell ill and passed away.  Amelia had been a team member for the last four years and spent the bulk of her time as a certified nursing assistant/caregiver on our second floor Alzheimers and Dementia unit.  Amelia was a bright light to everyone she met.  I will never forget the positive impact she had on our memory care residents.  Even if not able to communicate, residents always smiled and brightened up for Amelia.  I first got to know Amelia when she was awarded the Employee of the Month award shortly after I started at Menorah in 2021.  She graciously accepted the award, but did not want a lot of fanfare for herself.  Instead, she was able to elicit excitement and happiness from the residents present who were happy she was getting recognized.

Amelia will always be a reminder of how one can share a bit of love and joy to brighten someone else’s day.  She will always remind me of how our long-term care residents need and appreciate love.  Amelia will always be a reminder of the positive impact each of us can be for others.

May Amelia’s memory always be a blessing.

Rob
